Brindisi - Paxi ferries

Brindisi is a charming seaport town which has gained its importance from its position as a starting-point for the East. The deep inner harbour accommodates ocean steamers at the quays. The most prominent site here is the stunning castle built by Frederick II to guard the inner harbour. The castle, featuring round towers, today serves as a prison. The cathedral, dating from 1178, was destroyed by earthquakes and restored in 1743 to 1749.
