The Port of Tyne (Newcastle ) is located 10 miles east of Newcastle City centre on the north bank of the River Tyne.

The modern ferry terminals operated by Fjord Line and DFDS Seaways transport more than 700,000 passengers a year and offer excellent facilities including covered walkways, check-in areas, and automated baggage handling.

Fjord Line has three weekly crossings to Berben, Norway as well as Stavanger and Haugesund, also in Norway (duration 27 hours), carrying both passengers and freight.

DFDS Seaways has daily crossings to Amsterdam (Ijmuiden) in Holland (duration 15 hours). There are also twice weekly sailings to Kristiansand in Norway (duration 17 hours). Twice weekly sailings also service Gothenburg in Sweden, via Kristiansand in Norway (duration 25 hours). All these sailings carry both passengers as well as freight.
