NorthLink Ferries connects Aberdeen to Lerwick in the Shetlands, stopping en route at Kirkwall in Orkney. There is one sailing a day, with some sailings skipping the Kirkwall stop and sailing directly to Lerwick. Departures from Aberdeen are either at 17:00 or 19:00, arriving in Lerwick the following morning at 7:30 - the 19:00 departures skip the Kirkwall stop. The Kirkwall call is also skipped during the winter months. The journey time for this crossing is roughly 12 hours.
