Tirrenia Navigazione

Tirrenia di Navigazione provides links between Sardinia, mainland Italy, Corsica and Tunisia, with sailings onboard conventional ferries and modern fast ferries. Since its inception in 1936, Tirrenia Navigazione has been providing regular shipping connections in the Mediterranean ports.
The company was created from the merger of several smaller shipping companies: Transatlantic Italian Company, the Florio Company, the Sardinian Shipping Company and the ADRIA Company. Prior to World War II, Tirrenia was already considered to be one of the largest ship-owner groups in the Mediterranean.

Today, the company boasts a large fleet of vessels that ply the Mediterranean. It still remains as one of the largest European ship-owner and sailing groups. It is owned by the holding company Tirrenia di Navigazione, with the following subsidiaries: Adriatica di Navigazione - servicing Tremiti Islands, Croatia, Albania, and Yugoslavia; CAREMAR (Campania Regionale Marittima) - servicing Capri, Ischia, Procida, Ponza and Ventotene; SAREMAR (Sardegna Regionale Marittima) - connecting Corsica, La Maddalena and S. Pietro; SIREMAR (Sicilia Regionale Marittima) - servicing Eolie, Egadi, Pelagie, Ustica and Pantelleria; and TOREMAR (Toscana Regionale Marittima) - connecting Elba, Giglio, Capraia, Pianosa and Gorgona.
Tirrenia is also a major freight operator in the Mediterranean and all its routes carry both passengers and freight. However, the company also operates one freight-only route: Livorno-Cagliari.
