Orkney Ferries' routes can be divided into two segments: North Isles and South Isles. For all crossings, vehicles must check in 20 minutes prior to departure and passengers 10 minutes prior.

The North Isles route includes several destinations. The Stromness-Hoy-Graemsay route operates two to three times on weekdays and twice on weekends, however, this schedule varies depending on the season. Total journey time is 45 minutes.

The Wyre-Egilsay-Rousay route is serviced three times daily, with no service on Sunday. One of the routes stops en route at Tingwall. The total journey time is 30 minutes.

Another route serviced in this area is Kirkwall-Stronsay-Sanday-Eday once daily with altering routes and a crossing time of 3 hours from Kirkwall to Eday. The Kirkwall-Westry route is serviced twice daily, except Sunday, with a crossing time of 1 hour, 25 minutes. The service on the Kirkwall-Papa Westray route is limited to two sailings a week on Tuesday and Friday (an extension of the Kirkwall-Westray service), with a journey time of 2 hours, 30 minutes from Kirkwall and 40 minutes from Westray.

The South Isles service includes many routes. The Kirkwall-Shapinsay sailings depart five to six times a week Monday through Saturday, with only two sailings on Sunday. The crossing takes 45 minutes. The Kirkwall-North Ronaldsay route is serviced once a week on Friday mornings, with a journey time of 2 hours, 30 minutes. The Flotta and Lyness (North Hoy) route is serviced daily, except Sundays, with roughly six to eight sailings. The ferry routes vary, some direct, some with stops at Longhope and Houton.
