Profile
Hoverspeed

Hoverspeed was established in October 1981 as a result of the merger of two cross-Channel operators: Seaspeed and Hoverlloyd. Seaspeed operated services from Dover to Calais and Boulogne; and Hoverlloyd operated sailings from Pegwell Bay, near Ramsgate, to Calais.
Initially, the company operated a fleet of six hovercraft from Dover to Calais and Boulogne. In 1986, Hoverspeed was acquired by Sea Containers Limited, a New York Stock Exchange listed, Bermuda-registered company, operating from headquarters in London. The company's primary business is in passenger and freight transport and marine container leasing.
In 1990, Hoverspeed pioneered operations of the world's first vehicle-carrying catamaran, the SeaCat. The company also pioneered the operation of the SuperSeaCat, the largest monohull fast car ferry to operate in UK waters, which commenced operation between Newhaven and Dieppe in 1999.
