Caledonian MacBrayne, also known as CalMac, has over 150 years of experience serving the islands and ports on the western coast of Scotland, the Firth of Clyde and the Western Isles. CalMac is the leading ferry operator in Scotland and on average transports almost 5 million passengers and 1 million cars in the region annually.

CalMac serves 24 islands and 4 peninsulas spread over the western coast of Scotland. The company is committed to providing transportation services to remote communities and thus continually expands its services in this area. This commitment is included in CalMac's 10-year indicative investment plan, which includes proposals to add new vessels to the Weynss Bay to Rothesay route, a second linkspan at Oban and investment on the Islay route.

The bulk of CalMac's turnover is generated from the transport of passengers and passenger vehicles, as opposed to the transport of commercial vehicles, buses and coaches. This segment makes up almost 50 per cent of CalMac's annual turnover of around £60 million.
