Although the company is state-owned and considered to be very well run and successful in its own right, there are rumours of a privatisation. The company invested in several new vessels in the 1980s and has a solid reputation for running a quality and safe shipping service.
Since 1994, Adriatica di Navigazione has achieved the 'SMS' (Safety Management System) quality certificate, which became compulsory in July 1996 for all ferries and fast boats which call at ports in the EU. Safety is of utmost concern and the company strictly maintains its International Safety Management (ISM) standards, which certify the safety of its ships and the preservation of the marine environment in which the company operates.
