Spain Ports
Spain is one of the most diverse and visually stunning
nations of Europe. As you begin to plan your
trip, you may find yourself overwhelmed with
so many fascinating sights, beautiful landscapes,
and charming towns to fit into your limited
time. Ferry routes to the UK and Ireland, as
well as Mediterranean ports are numerous. There
are also regular services to North Africa.
Bilbao is the thriving financial capital of
Spain's Basque country, an ideal jumping-off
point for a host of destinations in Northern
Spain, Southwest France and also Portugal. The
sailing route to Portsmouth, in the UK, is run
twice weekly by P&O Ferries. The trip takes
between 30 and 36 hours.

The terminal, outside of Bilbao, is large and
comfortable with a coffee shop and newsagent
also available. A shop selling local food products,
wines, and handcrafts is another convenience,
while tourist information is on hand at the
tourism and information desk (tel: 34 944 83
9024).
On the northern coast of Spain lies the port
of Santander, with an average of 140,000 passengers
per year passing through its terminal, this
port is a popular ferry destination. Brittany
Ferries operates a passenger ferry service from
to Plymouth, in the UK, twice a week, with a
journey time of 30 hours. Santander has excellent
facilities for ferries and cruise ships, including
a passenger terminal in the heart of the city.
Services to the Balearic Islands from Barcelona
and Valencia are numerous, with less frequent
services to points further away in the Mediterranean.
A fast passenger ferry runs between Barcelona
and Palma twice daily, taking three hours. There
are slower cargo ferries linking Ibiza, Mallorca.
Alcúdia, Dénia, Formentera, Ibiza, Palma de
Mallorca, Maó (Mahon) and Valencia
Trasmediterranea, Spain's largest ferry company
serves the Balearic Islands, the entire Canary
Islands chain, and several routes between Southern
Spain and North Africa.
