Caronte & TouristFerries offer regular ferry crossings between the Italian mainland and Sicily from the port of Salerno to Messina.
In August 1999 the company took another step forward with the introduction of the Vestfold. This is a ship of the latest generation with double decks, greater carrying power, and higher speeds than the previous models able to carry 150 cars and 25 articulated vehicles.
The Caronte & Tourist S.p.A. fleet together with that of Caronte & Tourist Lines S.p.A., has 17 ships all currently in use on the Messina – Villa San Giovanni, Messina – Salerno – Messina, Milazzo – Eolian Islands route. The majority of the vessels were built in Italian ship yards between the end of the seventies and the early '90s.
All craft sailing on the Messina's Straights, after a recent, and thorough-going restyling, offer our customers an increasingly efficient and pleasant service.

CAROUNTE & TOURIST links the Strait of Messina for forty years. In October 2001, in order to bypass highway Salerno - Reggio Calabria subject of endless work to modernize, Caronte and Tourist Ferry Boat, launch a pioneering project "Motorways of the sea" linking the port of Messina to Salerno.
They opened the first fast ferry service "Cartour" from Messina to Salerno in about seven hours. The ferry service currently includes daily departures and operated with the m/v Cartour Beta and m/v Cartour Gamma, at a speed of 25 knots, with a cargo capacity of 800 cars and 150 commercial vehicles and accommodate up to 1000 passengers. On board there are cabins, seats, bar and restaurant, playground and shops.
On July 1, 2003 Caronte and Tourist Ferry Boat reorganize their activities, giving the respective branches to the newly shipping Caronte & Tourist SpA and sanctioning, thus merging the two companies.
The company was founded in 2003 with fusion of the Caronte & Tourist Ferry Boat which have sailed between Messina and Villa San Giovanni since 1968. On 07 October 2001 they launched the first route between Messina and Salerno. The first ship on this route was the Cartour.
Then in 2006 the Cartour Beta was introduced on the Salerno Messina route. On the 18th of November 2008 a third route was opened from Messina to Civitavecchia with the Cartour Gamma, which previously served the Messina and Salerno route.
